The Opportunity Center exists for all homeless without distinction of race, ethnic origin, gender, language spoken, or religious beliefs, and regardless of mental, drug and alcohol problems. Through direct contact with the homeless, the Center supports them to move beyond their condition if they are capable; or protects them if they cannot improve their condition in society because of emotional or psychological disorders.
Abuelos y Abuelitas: A Place to Belong
Through La Casa de las Abuelitas and La Casa de los Abuelos, the Opportunity Center for the Homeless provides safe, stable housing for elderly and frail individuals who are experiencing homelessness or are at imminent risk of returning to homelessness.
The focus of these programs is on protecting highly vulnerable older adults by offering dignified, long‑term supportive housing for those who are no longer able to live independently due to age, disability, or chronic health conditions.
By addressing homelessness among the elderly through stable housing, access to supportive services, and connections to medical and social resources, the Opportunity Center reduces repeated crises, prevents street homelessness, and improves quality of life for some of the community’s most at‑risk residents.
Funds raised for these programs will be used to support the daily operations and essential services that allow elderly and frail individuals experiencing homelessness to live safely and with dignity.
This includes expenses related to housing maintenance and utilities, food and basic necessities, case management and supportive services, and coordination of medical, mental health, and social care.
Funding also helps ensure a stable, long‑term housing environment that reduces repeated crises, prevents returns to homelessness, and improves overall health and quality of life for vulnerable older adults who cannot safely live independently.
